A pivotal week could very well of occurred this particular week in the First Division of the Ormskirk & District Amateur Snooker League. This time around saw new leaders as Red Lion Social Club A hit top spot after this week's round of matches but the Maghull-based team will be somewhat disappointed with their result as they clashed with struggling, bottom side, Scarisbrick NSC and only managed a 4-2 victory although credit to the Scarisbrick lads for putting up a good battle. This outcome sees Red Lion Social A lead by a single point at the top of the league table. The match also saw Red Lion A's Joe Clements in tremendous form with a fabulous break of 66 in his frame win.

Joe's break started with a red which was a shot-to-nothing and after a fine pot saw him get on the black ball to a degree. Joe decided to play that black with reverse side off two cushions to get back to the reds, he played it superbly well and gained position on his next red. A further three reds followed, all with high valued colours, with precise potting and fine positional play to quickly reach the twenty eight point mark in the break. After potting his next red, with the black to follow, Joe had to hold the black spot to get on his next red as he had finished very straight on that black ball. He potted the black and that was re-spotted on the pink spot. His next red required running right-hand side to get back to the black ball. Joe then potted that black, once again, and a further three reds, all with pink balls, to reach sixty five. He then potted his next red to leave himself on the black but somehow Joe missed that straightforward ball to sadly bring an end to a superb break on sixty six with a century very much a possibility.

Joe started playing in the Ormskirk League at the commencement of the current campaign were he represents Red Lion Social Club A.

Fleetwood Hesketh SSC arguably recorded their best win of the current season with some key, regular players missing due to illness. They came up against a very steady Upholland Social outfit and completely dominated the affair with a 6-0 demolition of their opponents. This result sees them move up two places in the league standings and into second position were they sit that one point behind the pace-setters but have an all-important match in hand over them and this week must now see them as clear favourites to make it a staggering seven consecutive league titles. The match also saw Fleetwood's Andy Booth in sparkling touch with a fine half century of 51 in his frame success.

This time around saw leaders, Aughton Institute E, go into battle with title-chasing Olympic BC B, who lie in fourth slot, and at the end of a good evening of hard fought snooker it saw a predictable 3-3 stalemate. The Aughton E boys will be disappointed with the result as they led 2-0 & 3-1 earlier in the encounter. This outcome sees the Aughton E outfit drop into third place in the league proceedings, just one point off the pace, whilst the Walton based team continue in fourth position were they sit a mere three points off the summit.
Red Lion Social Club B engineered a very solid 5-1 triumph at the expense of in-form Lathom & Burscough RBL. This result was probably their best win of the current campaign. They remain in eighth in the table but close to just a single point behind the team directly above them. Red Lion B's Andy Murray was in great touch with an excellent break of 40 in his frame victory. This was Andy's tenth win in eleven matches played to date, a fine record considering it's his first season in our league.
The other match played this particular week saw Olympic BC A manufacture their second win of the current season with a solid 4-2 away victory over fellow relegation-threatened, Rainford X SSC. In fact, they will probably be a little disappointed with the outcome as they found themselves 4-0 up earlier in the contest.
Aughton Institute A sat out their free week this time around.

Other notable break this week was – P Tyndall (Fleetwood Hesketh SSC) 35.

The Division One merit table still finds Scarisbrick NSC as leaders despite a defeat this week but have managed to double their lead to two points, they now lie on 94 points. Lathom & Burscough RBL continue in second position even thought they suffered a heavy defeat this time, they find themselves on 92 points. Rainford X SSC remain in third place after their reversal this particular week, they now sit on 90 points.

    Division 2

St Cuthberts continue to sit at the summit of the league table in Division Two after the latest round of matches. This particular week they clashed with lowly Aughton Institute B and at the end of a good battle between the two teams it saw them unable to be separated in a 3-3 stalemate. Much credit goes to the Aughton B lads as they raced into a 2-0 lead but the Halsall-based outfit showed their mettle by taking the next two frames to reach parity at 2-2, and the final two frames of the contest were shared. This outcome sees the leaders maintaintheir five point lead at the head of proceeding. The match also saw St Cuthberts Steve McBrinn in good touch with a nice break of 24 in his frame win.

Skelmersdale Wardens A met club compatriots, Skelmersdale Wardens B this time around in yet again Skelmersdale 'Derby' match and one of three 'Derby' matches played this particular week. At the end of the contest it saw the spoils being shared as a 3-3 score was reached but the promotion-chasing Skelmersdale Wardens A side had to come back from a 2-0 & 3-1 deficit to force the draw. This result sees the Skelmersdale A boys remain in second place in the league standings, those five points adrift of the pace-setters.

Stanley Club B were also involved in a 'Derby' match this week as they went into battle with struggling club compatriots, Stanley Club C in the Burscough 'Derby' encounter. It saw a good, tense battle between the two teams and it was the B side who prevailed 4-2. The Stanley C lads put up a fine show, chasing their first win of the current campaign, as they found themselves at 1-1 but with only being able to field five men they just lost out. The outcome sees the Stanley B outfit unchanged in third spot in the league table.

Skelmersdale Wardens C continue their excellent form of late and have put themselves firmly in the promotion mix as they recorded their fourth triumph in as many matches. This time around they engineered a 4-2 victory at the expense of Farmers Club. This result sees them move into fourth slot in the standings were they lie just six points off a promotion place. The match also saw Skelmersdale Wardens C's Lee Sealey in nice form with a good break of 22 in his frame success.

The other match played this particular week saw Reigning Champions, Aughton Institute D clash with club compatriots, Aughton Institute C in the third of the week's 'Derby' matches and after a tense affair it saw both sides unable to be separated in a 3-3 stalemate. The opening two frames were shared to find the contest at 1-1 but the Aughton D side stepped up a gear to move 3-1 ahead but credit goes to the Aughton C team for grabbing the final two frames to seal the draw.
