Fleetwood Hesketh SSC continue on the march towards a wonderful seven consecutive Division One crown in the Ormskirk & District Amateur Snooker League.

This particular week they recorded a disappointing result as they came up
against lowly Olympic BC A and ended the evening with a 3-3 stalemate but huge credit must go to the Olympic A lads as they battled throughout the contest to deserve their fine result. Despite their setback the Southport-based team remain in a very strong position to capture that title as although they have their lead cut they still hold a three point advantage and their run-in of matches can only be described as favourable. The match also saw Olympic A's Jordan McDonough in good form with a nice break of 30 in his frame win.

Aughton Institute E produced another excellent display again as this time around they had a difficult encounter with Lathom & Burscough RBL but completed their night's work with a superb 5-1 away triumph. This outcome sees them move up the league standings for the second successive week and into second place just those three points adrift of the pace-setters. The match also saw Aughton E's Richie Spring Jnr seal this week's 'Break of the Week' accolade with an excellent break of 40 in his frame success.

Richie's break began when the frame still remained in the balance with just five reds remaining. He drilled in a superb long red to gain ideal position on the black ball. After dispatching that black he very quickly took the remaining four reds, all with blacks, with that quick, authoritative style of his to clinch the frame for his side. This took him to forty and to add to his fine contribution he faced a tricky yellow which he narrowly missed to bring to an end to a very solid and vitally important break.

The other two sides chasing the First Division crown clashed this week in Red Lion Social Club A and Olympic BC B and after an excellent, tense battle it saw the Walton-based boys prevail with a solid 4-2 home victory. This result sees the Red Lion A outfit drop into third spot level on points with the team directly above them but they have played a match more than them, the Olympic B side continue in fourth place but close to seven points off the pace. The match saw Olympic B's Paul Williams in terrific nick with breaks of 39 & 38 in his frame win.

Aughton Institute A and Red Lion Social Club B came up against each other this time and after a close affair it saw both sides sharing the spoils in a 3-3 stalemate. The Aughton A lads will definitely be the happier of the two teams as they could only field a five man side and found themselves 2-0 down early in the contest but battled back to take the other three frames to force the draw. The outcome sees the Aughton A outfit move into sixth in the league table whilst the Maghull-based boys remain in eighth.

The other match played this week saw the bottom two teams clashing and it saw Rainford X SSC engineer a solid performance with a comprehensive 5-1 success over Scarisbrick NSC. The match was all square at 1-1 after the first two frames of the match but the Rainford boys certainly stepped up a gear by taking the last four frames to seal their victory.

Upholland Social sat out their free week this particular week.

Other notable break this week was – M Evans (Red Lion Social Club A) 32.The Division One merit table still sees Red Lion Social Club B leading the way and have doubled their advantage to two points after their draw this week, they sit on 98 points. Rainford X SSC moved into second place after their fine win this time around, they find themselves on 96 points. Scarisbrick NSC drop into third position after their heavy defeat this particular week, they lie on 95 points.

    Division 2

St Cuthberts took a giant step towards clinching the Second Division crown after this week's round of matches. The Halsall-based outfit went into battle with struggling Stanley Club C and produced another solid display to record a 5-1 triumph. This was their fourteenth win of the current campaign. This result sees them extend their advantage to a very healthy-looking seven points and with only five matches to end the season it sees them in an incredibly strong position to lift the title. The match also saw St Cuthberts Steve McBrinn in fine nick with a break of 21 in his frame success and this contribution and win certainly helped in keeping Steve top of the Division Two player rankings.

Skelmersdale Wardens A found themselves in a battle with Aughton Institute B this particular week and credit must go to both sides after a fine contest were the honours were shared in a 3-3 draw. With the Skelmersdale A team fighting for the title and promotion they found themselves 2-0 & 3-1 down earlier in the match but thought back strongly to force the stalemate.

The Aughton Institute B side also showed their
mettle and form more accustomed to this team after a disappointing campaign from them to push their opponents so close and almost sealed a fine win. This outcome sees the Skelmersdale A outfit remain in second position in the league proceedings those seven points adrift of the leaders. The match also saw Aughton B's Jim Rudge in good touch with a nice break of 25 in his frame but unfortunately it wasn't enough to win his frame.

Stanley Club B showed their fighting qualities too this time around as they ended their evening's work with an excellent 4-2 success at the expense of Skelmersdale Wardens B. Their victory was even more impressive as they fought back from 2-0 down early in the match to take the last four frames and seal their win. This result sees the Burscough side continue in third slot in the league standings. The match also saw Stanley B's Steve O'Hare in top form with nice breaks of 24 & 21 in his frame success to keep him firmly in the hunt for another top ranked player award.

Skelmersdale Wardens C impressively engineered their eleventh triumph of the current campaign this time around with a 4-2 win over Aughton Institute C. The contest was delicately poised at 1-1 after the first two frames but the Skelmersdale C lads upped the pace to take the next two frames for a commanding 3-1 lead and held on by sharing the final two frames to clinch their success. This outcomes sees them unchanged in fourth place in the league table. The match also saw Aughton C's captain Dave Ball in fine touch with a really nice break of 29 in his frame win.

The other match played this week saw improving Aughton Institute D meet Farmers Club and it saw both teams unable to be separated in a 3-3 stalemate. The match never had any more than a frame in it as it was closely fought throughout the match. The result sees the Aughton D team drop into fifth in the table whilst the Farmers Club boys continue in sixth.
