This week saw new leaders in Division One of the Ormskirk & District Amateur Snooker League. Newly named, Red Lion Social Club A went to the top of the league table after completing a nap hand of wins and maintain their impressive 100% start to the campaign.

This time around they went into battle with club compatriots, Red Lion Social Club B and at the end of the evening they recorded a fine 5-1 triumph. This outcome sees them move two points clear of their nearest rival at the summit and they will certainly be looking to challenge for the title this term although their resolve will be tested over the next two weeks as they come up against both serious title challengers in successive weeks. The match also saw Red Lion A's Stan Hughes in fine form with a really nice break of 43 in his frame victory.

Pace-setters from the commencement of the season, Aughton Institute E, saw out their free week this particular time and as a result find themselves dropping into second position in the league standings, those two points adrift of the new leaders. They will also be looking to mount a sustained effort for league honours this campaign.

Lathom & Burscough RBL came up against Champions from the last six seasons, Fleetwood Hesketh SSC and it saw a solid 5-1 win for the reigning Champions. This result saw the Burscough outfit lose their 'perfect record' but they do remain in third place in the league proceedings after their very solid start this term. Meanwhile, Fleetwood Hesketh SSC move into fifth slot, some eight points off the pace, but do have a match in hand over the pace-setters were both those sides clash next week. This match also saw Fleetwood's Jon Holmes grab this week's 'Break of the Week' accolade with a superb break of 54 in his frame success.

Jon's break began with an opening red ball which lay in baulk, he dispatched that red and gained good position on the green ball. His next shot was probably the key shot of the break as it required Jon to pot the green and screw the cue ball off the side cushion and into the pack of reds. He played the shot beautifully as the reds opened up nicely but the break was even more impressive as the black lay on the brown spot and the pink ball was situated on the side cushion so Jon's main emphasis was on the blue ball. He potted a total of seven reds, all with blue balls, as he had to work the cue ball up and down the table as all the reds lay around the pink spot. After potting the penultimate red, Jon screwed up the table for the black ball, which he potted, to leave a double to a middle pocket on the final red of the frame. Unfortunately, he jawed the red to bring an end to an excellent break on fifty four.

Olympic BC B got straight back to winning ways after their reversal in their last league match two weeks earlier. This week they ended their evening's work with a solid 4-2 home victory over Upholland Social. This outcome sees them remain in sixth in the table, some nine points adrift of the leaders, but do have at least one match in hand over four of the five sides above them, the Upholland Social boys continue in fourth spot. The match also saw Olympic B's Tommy Stevenson in good nick with a nice break of 32 in his frame success.

Aughton Institute A engineered their second win of the current campaign with a solid 4-2 away victory at the expense of Rainford X SSC. The match lay very delicately poised at 2-2 but the Aughton A outfit won the last two frames of the encounter to complete their win and as a result sit in seventh in the league standings and, they too, have at least one match in hand over most of the sides above them.

The other match played this time around saw Scarisbrick NSC go into battle with Olympic BC A and at the end of proceedings it saw a predictable 3-3 scoreline reached. The Scarisbrick lads will be much the happier of the two teams as they found themselves 2-0 and 3-1 down earlier in the match but, to their credit, took the last two frames to grab the draw.

Aughton Institute E sat out their free week this time around as mentioned above.

Other notable breaks this week were – C Hoare (Fleetwood Hesketh SSC) 45, M Brown (Fleetwood Hesketh SSC) 45, A Booth (Fleetwood Hesketh SSC) 34 & P Williams (Olympic BC B) 31.

The Division One merit table sees Scarisbrick NSC continue as leaders with 86 points and slightly extended their lead to eight points after their draw with particular week. Rainford X SSC remain in second position on 78 points after their defeat this time around. Third spot is now held by Olympic BC A after their stalemate this week, they sit on 63 points

    Division 2

This particular week in the Second Division saw St Cuthberts continuing to lead the pack despite suffering their first defeat of the season. They went into battle with Skelmersdale Wardens B and it saw the Skelmersdale B lads come out with a fine 4-2 triumph. Despite this defeat for the current leaders they will certainly be looking to return to the top flight at the first time of asking. This outcome sees their advantage cut to a single point from their nearest rival. The Skelmersdale Wardens B outfit move up a place in the league table and into seventh. The match also saw St Cuthberts skipper, Jason Neale, in good touch with a nice break of 26 in his frame success.

Stanley Club B also failed to seal a victory this time around and they clashed with Aughton Institute B and at the end of the evening it saw the spoils shared as a 3-3 draw was reached. The Burscough boys will feel a little disappointed as they held a 3-1 lead earlier in the encounter but their consolation is they have halved their deficit and just lie that one point off the pace-setters. The Aughton B side remain in sixth in the league proceedings.

Farmers Club closed the gap on the two teams directly above them as they earned themselves a 4-2 away victory at the expense of Aughton Institute C. This result sees them continue in third slot in the league standings but now sit only four points off the leaders and will certainly be looking for a sustained push for honours this term.

Skelmersdale Wardens A made it four wins for the current campaign as this week they clashed with struggling Stanley Club C and got straight back to winning ways after last week's defeat. They produced a steady performance and came away with a 4-2 win. This outcome sees them unchanged in fourth place but they have also closed in on the two leading protagonists and find themselves five points off top spot. The match also saw Stanley C's Mike Slobin in fine nick with a nice break of 28 in his frame win.

The other match played this week saw reigning Champions, Aughton Institute D, suffer another defeat as Skelmersdale Wardens C inflicted a 4-2 defeat on them which could have been a lot worse for the Champions as they found themselves 4-0 down earlier in the match but managed to dig deep and take the final two frames. The result see the Skelmersdale Wardens C lads still sitting in fifth position in the table but the Aughton D outfit are currently struggling in ninth.

Other notable break this week was – C Sawyer (Stanley Club C) 22.
