Over 200 runners, walkers, families with pushchairs and pets headed out of Bishop Rawstorne High School, Croston, Lancashire at the annual Rainbow House Ramble on Saturday.

The starting ribbon was cut by George Alty from Banks and Mason Platt from Preston who was 10 on the day – two children who use the services at Rainbow House - and within minutes the Lancashire countryside was full of people out to have fun and raise funds for the charity which supports children with physical and neurological disabilities.

Jo Roberts from Penwortham was first across the line on the five mile route in 51 minutes closely followed by joint seconds, Roshan and Ibn Hussain from Preston, while Chris Pilkington, 34, from Penwortham was first across the line on the 11 mile route which he completed in 1 hour 28 minutes - he also organised the Guild Wheel Walk at Easter when Rainbow House was one of the beneficiaries.

The youngest participant to complete the 11 mile walk was Ryan Zaidany from Croston who is just 7 years old whilst the first dog across the finish line was assistance dog Sunley with Luke Carter who also attends Rainbow House and is known for his avid support of Preston North End where he has been a mascot.

Entertainment was provided by the Rock Choir Southport Group as everyone warmed up before the start with Rachel Bryan from Fitbop and Jonathan Knowles, who has cerebral palsy and has been attending conductive education for 11 years, was the DJ and kept the fun atmosphere going.

Rainbow House mascots, Drew and Libby Lou joined in, together with Spiderman and Captain Marvel sent by Starkidz Parties much to the delight of the children.

Lyndsay Fahey, Head of Strategic Development and Finance, said “The Rainbow Ramble is one of the highlights of the year and we can’t thank everyone enough for taking part with special thanks to our supporters Goldseal, Trust Inns and JMW Solicitors.

"We will not know the amount raised until all the sponsorship comes in but we raised over £23K last year and hope for something similar.”

She continued “This year was an extra special year and a real celebration of the work we do as many of the children who attend Rainbow House did their own personal Superhero challenges for the first time. It was extremely emotional to see all their hard work and determination to cross the finish line and a proud day for everyone involved.”

Marshalls along the route were provided by Virago Star Owners club and first aid cover by Ultrasec Security, Chorley.
