Renacres Hospital staff took part in a charity bike ride for IncuBabies - but didn't get very far!
As part of the Hospital’s Health and Wellbeing initiative, staff and consultants at pedalled in aid of ‘Bike for Babies’, a 12 hour stationary bike ride to raise money for their new charity for 2018 – IncuBabies.
It was one of Renacres first fundraising events of the year for this very rewarding new charity, as well as two raffles including an Easter Raffle which in total raised over £750.
Two exercise bikes were set up in the reception foyer so that patients, staff and visitors could support and encourage the participants who pedalled a total distance of 627.8 kilometres in 12 hours, the equivalent of cycling from London to Edinburgh - there was also an opportunity to enter the competition to “Guess the miles” and win a bottle of champagne!
IncuBabies , a local charity, are fund raising to build a new extension to the Children’s’ intensive Care Unit within the Neonatal Unit at Arrowe Park Hospital. The demand for their services is increasing as they care for babies from a much wider area than ever before so they need all the help they can get.
Diana Charnley, Physiotherapy Manager and Acting Ops Manager who organised the charity bike ride told QLocal: “Thank you to all the staff and consultants that have contributed to this event in raising money for a very worthy cause”
And Jackie Morgan, Matron at Arrowe Park Hospital added: “It is amazing what they are doing!
"Renacres is not on our doorstep but they have the understanding that babies in their community often need the care delivered at Arrow Park Hospital’s Neonatal Unit and want to help. I’d like to say a heartfelt thankyou to the amazing staff and consultants for raising money and the Renacres patients for their contributions and support”
Wendy Williams, GP Liaison Officer at Renacres Hospital who organises the fundraising events and activities, commented: “On behalf of Renacres Hospital, I would like to thank all those who have supported today’s charity bike ride including our patients, staff, consultants the employee wellbeing team and IncuBabies.
"I am pleased to announce we managed to raise £466.57 for our Charity of the Year. Renacres Hospital is committed to charitable giving and I am so proud of what we have achieved.”
