Police are still investigating the wanton attack by sick vandals targeting children using a popular Aughton park.
Police revealed at the weekend how a slide had been found with razor blades and scalpels sellotaped to it at the Winifred Lane park which is supervised by Aughton parish council.
Boxer Anthony Bellew of Swanpool Lane took to Twitter to vent his anger at the discovery, asking "Why would anyone do this ... why would anybody want to hurt a child?"
He said: "Truly frightening world we live in. This and all parks are for innocent children. The person who did this needs taking off the face of the earth."
This afternoon, a Borough Council PR officer told QLocal: "While this is not one of the Borough Council's play areas, the authority is assisting in raising awareness of this incident and asking residents to remain vigilant, whilst urging anyone who knows anything about this, or any similar occurrences, to call the police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
"The Winifred Lane playground is the responsibility of Aughton Parish Council and the razor blades were found during a routine safety inspection undertaken by a park-keeper who works for that Parish Council.
"Borough Council staff have also inspected all of its own play areas over the weekend and can confirm that no further hazards of this type were discovered. They will continue with their inspections on a regular basis.
"Parish Clerks across West Lancashire were also notified of the incident and advised to remain vigilant and ensure safety checks are carried out.
"Residents can keep up to date on any developments on the Ormskirk and Burscough Police's FB page," he concluded.
