Ormskirk and Rural West Lancs Police reacted to concerns raised in the community about speeding drivers, acting this weekend with very positive results.
Officers were out and about in Rufford on Saturday, focusing on drivers committing the ‘fatal five’ offences:
- speeding
- not wearing a seatbelt
- using a mobile phone at the wheel
- driving under the influence of drink
- driving under the influence of drugs
Within just two hours they had stopped and dealt with
- 17 people for speeding – several of whom were doing double the speed limit
- one person who failed to stop
- two people driving without due care, who have been summonsed to court
- and four people not wearing seatbelts, who have also been summonsed to court
We hope this shows that we will not stand for this type of offence. We will continue to patrol the area to and will deal robustly and proportionately with anyone who puts themselves and others in danger on the roads.
