    MP Rosie Cooper visited Westhead Lathom St James School to formally open their new outdoor reading area.


    Headteacher Alison Albionand Busy Bees teacher Mrs Cusick welcomed Rosie along with 23representatives of the student council to show her the new story-teller chair installed in the orchard in the school field.


    Rosie spoke with the children about the importance of reading and her own love of books, and met thechair’s workmen Bernard and Frank.


    Afterwards she told QLocal's Roger Blaxall: "It was a delight to visit LathomSt James again to see the progress they continue to make,adding their new outdoor reading area to their range ofout of classroom and extracurricularprovision.



    “My love for reading is built on recognising its importance in people’s learning and creatingopportunitiesfor them tobe the best they can be in life.


    “The work of Mrs Cusick, Mrs Albion and the School Council to fundraise for and provide an alternative reading and learningenvironment which helps to increase the children’s enjoyment of reading is fantastic.


    Added headteacher Mrs Alison Albion:The new story-teller chairhas been skilfully made with love by carpenters and carvers Frank Lloyd and Bernard Blackburn.?The acrylic inlay shows the school’s motto, ‘Enjoy, Respect, Learn, Achieve’.Funds were raised by the hard-working School Council with the help of Mrs Cusick, the School Council leader.



    The keen readers of Westhead School are thrilled with their new story-teller chairadding:We can read stories to each other at lunch-times now.

    "We’ve got a shed of
    booksbut we can make up our own stories too and pretend to be the teacher!”
