At Remembrance Sunday Parades and Services on 10 November West Lancashire will pay tribute to those who have suffered or lost their lives serving their country.
West Lancashire Mayor, Councillor Gaynar Owen, who will attend services in Ormskirk and Burscough, telling QLocal this lunchtime: “Remembrance Sunday is an extremely important occasion and we will all gather with great pride to honour brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.”
Jacqui Sinnott-Lacey,Interim Chief Operating Officer, will be at Ormskirk. Councillor Donna West will be at Skelmersdale on behalf of the Deputy Mayor, accompanied by Ian Gill,Head of Growth and Development.
Ormskirk
The parade will assemble at St Anne’s RC Church at 9.15am for a service at 9.30am. At 9.45am the parade will march to the War Memorial in Coronation Park for a service. A salute will then be taken on Park Road as the parade passes into Ormskirk Parish Church for the main Service of Remembrance at 10.45am. All three services will include a minute’s silence, Last Post and Reveille. Tea and biscuits will be served in New Church House.
Burscough
The parade will assemble outside Legion headquarters, Lord Street, at 1.30pm and start marching at 1.45pm to arrive at the War Memorial, Junction Lane, at 2pm, where a short service will take place. A church service at St. John's Church will start at 2.45pm. Refreshments will be provided at Legion headquarters.
In addition, Parish Councils in Aughton, Lathom and Up Holland are arranging parades and ceremonies, and services will be held at many churches.
On 11 November a service and two minute silence ceremony will take place at 11am at the War Memorial in Coronation Park, Ormskirk. All are welcome from 10.45am.
On the same day atHMS Ringtail Monument, Ringtail Retail Park, Pippin Street, Burscough at 10.30am there will be a service and a two minute silence after which wreaths will be laid at the monument. The Last Post will sound at 11am. Guests should gather at Booths from around 10am; all are welcome.
