Concerned residents on an upmarket Burscough housing development have contacted the busy QLocal news desk following the opening of Chancel Way and its adoption by the county council.

It offers a quicker route to the thriving Burscough industrial park - expanding even further soon - with 20 or more HGV's an hour travelling from the M6 using it to avoid the busy Booths roundabout.

A local councillor has hit the ground running about the situation and QLocal will be speaking to him soon; in the meantime Redrow's PR office issued this statement after signs reminding drivers to observe the 30 limit appeared over the last fortnight.

Claire Jarvis, MD for Redrow Lancashire, said: "We are working with the local authority, councillors and the school to improve safety for all road users and pedestrians along Chancel Way.

"Our health and safety team have visited the site to observe the issues and we have placed temporary signs along its length to inform road users of the speed limit and the fact it's a residential area.

"Permanent speed restriction signs have been ordered, and there are also lamp posts the length of the road which inform road users that, as a single carriageway, the speed limit is 30mph.

"We are liaising with the council regarding additional traffic calming measures.

The company's also addressing concerns about parking on or near the junction by parents dropping children off at Burscough Lordsgate School.

Added Ms. Jarvis: "We have also been working closely with the school to address parking issues at pick up and drop off times around the junction. The school has written to all parents and guardians to request that they park responsibly. We are also planning to extend the double yellow lines around the junction to further combat this issue.

"Road safety around our developments is something we take very seriously, and we will do everything we can to support road users and those parking locally to drive and park responsibly."
