WHITEMOSS STENCH LEAVES RESIDENTS WORRIED REPORTS ROSIE COOPER MP

MP Rosie Cooper's demanded an urgent investigation and action from Lancashire County Council and the Environment Agency after angry local residents raised concerns with her about yet another ‘toxic smell’ coming from the Whitemoss Waste Management Facility.

She was part of a campaign in 2015 that fought plans to increase the size of the hazardous waste disposal site - despite huge local objections and fears of increased risk to health, the Government made the decision to allow the expansion.

Since it went ahead, residents have consistently raised concerns about hazardous dust clouds being released from the site and repeated ‘toxic’ smells.

The angry MP commented: “The history of Whitemoss Landfill is a horror story, with local residents being ignored and continually subjected to obnoxious smells together with the threat of potentially hazardous substances being released into the air.

"No wonder people are really worried about this ‘toxic’ smell and what it might mean for their health.

“I have sought assurances from the Council and Environment Agency that these smells and any toxicity are being properly investigated.

"If anything is happening at the site that shouldn’t be, I want to know about it, and it needs to be stopped quickly.

"The health of local residents must be put before any business interests.”
