ORMSKIRK OWLS WELCOME ADDITONAL CCTV TO BE INSTALLED IN TOWN CENTRE
Three new cameras to be installed at corner of Railway Road/Leyland Way; corner of Moor Street/Knowsley Road and on path between bus and rail stations
Ormskirk activists for council independents Our West Lancashire (OWL) Gordon Johnson and Janet Ingman have warmly welcomed news that three new CCTV cameras will be installed in the town centre calling it 'both a reassurance and a deterrent.'
They'll be installed at the corner of Railway Road and Leyland Way; at the Moor Street junction with the A570 and Knowsley Road and on the pathway between the bus and rail stations.
There will also be upgrades to the CCTV monitoring suite at the council offices, with funding secured by the Borough Council via the Police and Crime Commissioner as part of a £1 million package for Lancashire from the Government's Safer Street's Fund.
Gordon Johnson, a former Mayor and councillor for the town said: “This is very welcome news for Ormskirk and the council officers need applauding for securing this extra investment. CCTV acts both as a reassurance and a deterrent. Both are much needed at this time in the town.”
Janet Ingman, who fell only 11 votes short of being elected a councillor in May added: “I will be writing to the council asking them to work with the pubs and bars to increase publicity about the town centre CCTV inside venues.
"In this way when people come out of venues they will think twice about their actions. Many people don’t know it’s there at the moment or easily forget. With police doing regular checks and responding it will have a ripple effect for the better on people’s behaviour.”
