Report: Brian Brighouse
In recent weeks, the Queens Head have struggled to field a team; this week they should have played a local derby against the league leaders, Bar 22, but unfortunately, couldn't muster a team.
There was some uncertainty as to whether they would be unable to complete the season, but I now believe they intend remaining in the league.
The Bar 22 move on to 96 points, some 13 points above their nearest challengers The Queen Inn.
The Queen Inn, last year’s champions took on Shaw Hall at their Aughton Street base. It was a tight affair with the ‘Inn’ triumphing by the odd game.
The other big winners this week were the Stanley Club who oversaw La Cantina B 7 (8) – 0, this sees the Stanley step into third place on 82 points.
The most significant game of the week in the challenge for honours was probably the Bridge hosting the 22 Club, it was a tight battle but the home team triumphed by the odd game.
Both of these teams have 81 points and it looks like the race for 2nd and 3rd spots will go down to the wire.
It seems to have been a week of close encounters, the Farmers also beat the Bridge Dogs by the odd game at their Dispensary home and there was a similar result at La Cantina where their A team won by the odd game against the Railway.
The tie of the week this week appears to at the Stanley Club as they take on their rivals for a trophy position, the Queen Inn.
There is no significant change in the race for player of the years Paul Judge and Ryan Griffin didn’t play, but Joe Smith took the opportunity to leapfrog Ryan as he won his singles game.
