Burscough litter pickers teamed up with staff from cardboard manufacturer DS Smith's to 'Keep Burscough Tidy'.
And the tidy move came after a post on social media where as Burscough litter pickers we'd noticed an amount of small pieces of cardboard finding their way through the perimeter fence and onto the public footpath which runs adjacent to the factory on Red Cat Lane.
I was contacted by the firm's logistics manager Nigel Kenyon who'd seen the post and invited me for a meeting to discuss the issue; the difficulty was soon resolved with a new mesh fence, with the large yard swept and tidied under the guidance of David Williamson, site forum leader.
He and some staff offered to join us on one our litter picks as a community gesture, which we gratefully thanked him for, with an extra offer of letting us place our collected litter in the firms recycling skips avoiding landfill.
This company has to be commended for their efforts to keep the village litter free and their generosity in offering to help the local community when the occasion requires.
Burscough PC sent a letter of thanks to Mr. Banks for the company's response to the problem.
*We're always on the lookout for more volunteers and we can be found on the Burscough litter pickers web page (https://en-gb.facebook.com/pages/cat...9397927435883/)
Our next pick us on Sun.18th August, meet at the Ring o' Bells pub car park Lathom 10.30 am.
