This is the aftermath of a raid by a thief on a bike who targeted a popular town centre jewellers in Ormskirk at teatime.
Police sealed off Moorgate for around two hours after the incident; one eyewitness said he saw a man on a pedal bike approach David Moss Jewellers at around 4.45pm - it seems he escaped empty handed although this has yet to be confirmed by the force.
A fingertip search of two local alleyways was conducted by officers while the shop was also dusted down for fingerprints by a SOCO.
Owner David Moss is always careful about security at his shop and only allows customers in after 'vetting' them at the door. It's not known if he or an assistant was there at the time of incident and it's expected police will release more information tomorrow.
Moorgate was re-opened by police at around 7pm.
