A brand new Mercedes was badly damaged in a two car crash at the busy Fiveways junction this evening.
Police and ambulance crews attended the collision between a Dacia and the Merc. at around 10.45; Liverpool bound traffic was diverted off County Road and along Green Lane with the junction closed for at least an hour.
Two injured people were stretchered into ambulances; saddest scene of the night was to observe a group of young folk leaving the Fiveways and running to the scene of the crash shouting "It's all kicking off here!"
There have been numerous calls for CCTV to monitor the busy junction which is now subject to a 30mph limit after intervention by MP Rosie Cooper, local councillors and community groups.
Our thanks to good friend of QLocal Paul Rainbird for the accident tip off.
Update: The NWAS media office have confirmed that a rapid response vehicle and two ambulances were sent to the incident with two people being taken to hospital - one to Ormskirk and one to Southport. No one was badly injured in the crash and the road was re-opened at 1am by police.
