The busy NWAS press office have confirmed that a Skem. man in his early 30's is now recovering in Southport hospital after suffering a 'medical episode' while driving to Ormskirk through Rufford last week.
He is said to have been 'frothing at the mouth' before the crash.
Police closed the A59 at Rufford on Friday afternoon as paramedics tended to the Merc. driver who lost control of his car and hit the rear of a WM Thompson truck returning to its yard on Holmeswood Road.
Two staff from the nearby car wash ran out to the car, which was travelling at around 20mph towards Ormskirk, in a bid to open the driver's door and disable the ignition.
The WM Thompson driver was shocked but unhurt.
