Two friends from Leyland and Preston will be walking the full length of Hadrian’s Wall from Wallsend, Newcastle to Bowness on Solway in Cumbrian to raise funds for Rainbow House, Mawdesley.
Stuart Maw, 34, and Dax Byrne-Turner, 32, aim to complete the 84 mile walk in five/six days starting on 19th April from the North East and averaging 14 miles a day. They are not professional walkers so say they are “jumping in the deep end” but they have been doing practice walks at Dunsop Bridge, Sizergh Castle, Pendle Hill, Angkzarke Reservoir, Kirby Lonsdale and Winter Hill.
Stuart said “Rainbow House provides a unique service for the rehabilitation of people with disabilities through conductive education and physiotherapy. It is crucial to the well-being of so many children, young people and adult and even more impressive when you realise that they have to raise all of their own funds.”
He continued “Thanks to Louise Cottom and all the staff at Go Outdoors, Deepdale, Preston who referred us to the Go Outdoors Group Sales department and they have provided us with pretty much all the kit we need for this expedition. We have also had other support so that all of the expenses for travel and accommodation are covered and every penny raised will go to the charity and will be well spent. And a huge thank you to everyone who has already donated for such a worthy cause.”
Ben Blackman, Chief Executive, Rainbow House, said “It is fantastic that Stuart and Dax are taking on this great challenge to raise funds for us and we look forward to hearing about their progress.”
