Millions of pounds are being invested into the new look Merseyrail service through west Lancashire - but some angry Aughton residents are hoping part of Network Rail's plans upgrading the line will hit the buffers...
Tomorrow night they'll be seeking to persuade NW bosses to think again over its controversial proposals to build a massive new substation on green belt farm land off Sandy Lane, Aughton at a public meeting at Aughton Institute - and last night they got the backing of local parish councillors in their fight to stop the development, although none of them quite knows where it could be built.
Gaby Naylor on behalf of the residents took to the floor to present a ten minute summary of why every local affected is against the plans - which look to have been developed 'in secret'.
One alternative suggested was to use land at Aughton Town Green station for the substation and another, suggested by one parish councillor later, was to investigate whether it could be built nearer Maghull.
