I always remember a reporter at the old Lancashire Evening Post telling me how many press releases received by the busy news desk went straight into the bin.
Ready for this (look away now if your in the PR industry...)
According to Tim Gavell a whopping 80 per cent; they were either irrelevant, dated - or just blatant attempts at free publicity.
The industry hasn't changed hence me taking the latest PR photos for the planned new McCarthy Stone 'retirement village' in Burscough with a huge pinch of salt...
Was I right?
Compare the image of the picturesque 'lake' with the actual reality - instead of graceful swans I saw a solitary coot scratting around in a large puddle among the reeds when these photos were taken earlier this month.
Enough said?
