Woodlands – Volunteer raises thousands with continuous sparring session.

The team effort at Woodlands Animal Sanctuary continues; one of their long-term Cat Cuddlers has recruited her Karate club, to join her in raising vital funds for Woodlands, by taking part in a sponsored Kumite event, (sparring session). This is a very physical activity and the club’s members all joined in, with the younger members doing a full hour without a break and the adults managing an hour and a half. To put this in perspective, a sparring session in a competition would be just 3 minutes long! Approximately 30 people joined in this sponsored event with the youngest being 8, right through to those in their late 60’s!

This sponsored Kumite event was to help Southport Karate Club to celebrate their 25th anniversary and they raised a whopping £2,800! What an achievement for a local, friendly sports club, offering excellent instruction in the art of Shotokan Karate, from experienced, passionate and knowledgeable coaches.

If you would like to see where these funds go and the life changing care this team provides for ill, abandoned and unwanted animals, you can visit them on Saturday 25th May for their open day, 11-3pm.

Woodlands are extremely grateful to Hayley and everyone at Southport Karate Club for supporting the valuable work they do. Every penny raised will be going towards looking after the animals in their care, whether that be for food, veterinary care, enrichment activities, maintenance on a pen or stable, or dedicated TLC from a member of the Woodlands team.
