Work has begun on a new 56-home development in Mawdesley, which will bring much-needed homes and a new Scout headquarters to the area.
Jones Homes Lancashire has started construction at the development, at Goodyear Business Park off Gorsey Lane, with the first new homes set to go on sale later this year.
Planning permission was granted last year by Chorley Borough Council for the 56 homes, the Scout building and car park and a public open space.
Jones Homes will pay more than £378,000 towards community infrastructure as part of the deal, including almost £98,000 towards the community building.
Carol Barlow, Sales Director for Jones Homes Lancashire, said: “Mawdesley is a thriving and popular village where there is a proven need for more housing. Jones Homes will provide high-quality homes of varying sizes to cater for a wide range of needs.
“The investment we will be making in community infrastructure will ensure the village is well-equipped to welcome its new residents. The development will also help to secure the future of Goodyear Furniture, which will continue to trade in a new building at the business park.
“We have begun demolishing some of the older buildings on the site and construction of our new homes will be under way in the coming weeks.
“People have begun registering for updates about the development through our website and we will be contacting them with more information as construction work progresses.
“Early indications show that there is high demand for new homes in the area.”
Jones Homes will be selling four and five-bedroom homes in Mawdesley. The company is also building four and five-bedroom homes at Roseacre Gardens in Rufford, where a new show home has opened and the build programme is entering its final stages.
