Lathom Park Primary School's been addressing how lockdowns have affected their pupils' language skills 'head on'.
The issue hit the headlines after a report by BBC education correspondent Branwen Jefferies claiming that research has show that the past year of lockdowns has had an impact on young children's language skills.
In a report on BBC News yesterday, she claimed that data from 50,000 pupils and a survey of schools across England have shown an increased number of four and five year-olds needing help with language, with evidence showing poor speech development can have long-term effects on learning.
Said bursar Libby Blundell: "Our dedicated, highly trained staff have been supporting our younger children in closing the gap in issues of speech and language acquisition.
"We use programmes such as Talk boost, Nellie and Welcome to assess and teach."
She added that staff use its extensive grounds with outdoor classroom and Nursery/Early Years area, and its reflection and reading areas and fabulous Forest School to inspire and spark childrens' language acquisition and encourage a love of learning and shared creativity in pupils.
