    Scarisbrick Hall

This beautiful house is situated on the site of the ancestral home of the Scarisbrick family, that dates back to the time of King Stephen. The present building, considered to be one of the finest examples of Victorian Gothic architecture in the country, was designed by Pugin and completed in 1867.
Its most notable feature is the 100-foot tower, which strongly resembles the well-known clock tower of the Houses of Parliament, and is visible from many miles around.

Scarisbrick Hall was completed in 1867 and remained in the ownership of the Scarisbrick family until 1948. A family rivalry can be seen in the design, between Charles Scarisbrick and his sister Lady Anne Hunloke, who chose Augustus Pugin and his son, Edward, as architects. The influence of each is revealed along with a host of ornate and finely carved works, some of which date to as early as the 15th Century. Scarisbrick Hall is an outstanding example of the work of one of the 19th century's most influential architects and this is a rare opportunity to visit the privately-owned building.

Any memories, tales to tell, were you a pupil of Scarisbrick Hall School?
